17 MCLA Student-Athletes Named to All-Academic Team
NORTH ADAMS, MA - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announces that 17 of its MCLA Trailblazers have been named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's (MASCAC) Spring 2012 All-Academic Team.
"MCLA placing 17 students on the All-Academic Team encompasses our mission of excellence, opportunity and leadership," said Jeff Puleri, MCLA's head baseball coach and the College's sports information director. "These athletes represent more than 35 percent of the total number of MCLA student-athletes who are eligible. We are very proud of the on- and off-the-field accomplishments of these athletes."
A total of 437 student-athletes were honored by MASCAC with their selection to the league's Spring 2012 All-Academic Team. Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the eight MASCAC institutions during the course of the recently completed Spring 2012 academic semester, and who have achieved a minimum 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average are eligible for selection to the Spring All-Academic Team.
MCLA's All-Academic Team members include Joe Duncan, Nick Mancini, Rory Slattery and Cody Weaver from the men's baseball team; Sara Hamilton, Alyson Stolz, Lucy Tremblay and Jen Wehner from the women's basketball team; Samantha Barbarotta, Kaitland Hager, Kelly Kendig, Kayla Koumjian and Katelyn Latagne from the women's softball team; and Amory Galili, Mitchell Mabardy, Daniel Nesti and Joseph Whitehouse from the men's tennis team.
Student-athletes that competed in winter championship varsity sports who met the same academic criteria during the spring semester also are eligible for selection to the Spring All-Academic Team.
The conference releases both a fall and spring academic team. Winter sport athletes are eligible for both terms, while all other sports are seasonal.
