NORTH ADAMS, MA - College students from across the region will gather at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Saturday, Feb. 4, to gain leadership skills at the campus' 17th Annual Student Leadership Conference in the Amsler Campus Center's Venable Gymnasium, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This year's keynote speaker will be Ryan Penneau, an author, playwright, community leader and professor of experiential education. According to Jennifer Craig, coordinator of student activities at MCLA, Penneau is one of the nation's leading experts in student success and the college experience.

Penneau's keynote address will be "Take Back College - Your Revolution Awaits." He will talk to students about taking an active approach to education and their college experience. Following his keynote address, Penneau will lead two workshops, "Rock Star Presentations" and "Wrestling Elephants - Lessons in Leadership" in the Campus Center's Sullivan Lounge.

Immediately after college, Penneau facilitated corporate leadership development trainings for national, Fortune 500 companies. As he worked with incoming employees to develop their leadership skills, Penneau found his true passion was to work with college students, Craig said.

During previous conferences, students have had the opportunity to learn from one another about leadership as well as gain some practical skills that can be put to use immediately. Students who attend the conference will be encouraged to challenge each other to expand their thinking, investigate the diversity of leadership among them and set high standards for leadership on their campus, Craig added.
