BCRC Puppet Workshop to Include 'Chronicles of Rose' Cast
NORTH ADAMS, MASS - Berkshire Cultural Resource Center (BCRC) is proud to announce the first-ever puppet workshop on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. in the North Adams Puppet Lab, 107 Main St. This workshop will include the cast of the "Chronicles of Rose" (CoR) puppet production, which is part this season's MCLA Presents! Inaugural Puppet Fest.
At this workshop, North Adams puppeteer David Lane offers everyone a chance to explore techniques for articulation, breath and character, using simple, directly manipulated puppets. "Then, try your hand at playing with some of the 18-inch, bunraku-style figures and shadow puppets from the show," he said.
Lane will bring all of the CoR puppets to this workshop, and give a hands-on presentation on how to bring a puppet to life. No experience is required.
"Chronicles of Rose" is part of MCLA Presents! Inaugural Puppet Fest. The final CoR shows will conclude on May 1. All performances start at 6 p.m. and will take place at the Puppet Lab at 107 Main St.
"Chronicles of Rose" depicts the time in Paris just before and during the Nazi occupation of France during World War II. During the first episode of this serial puppet drama, France is on the brink of invasion and we find Rose torn between escaping Paris with handsome Jewish art dealer Paul Rosenberg, or staying to help.
The Louvre is being evacuated as priceless sculptures and paintings are loaded onto trucks on their way to chateaux in the south in the hopes that they will not be discovered by the Nazis. But before Rose can make a choice, she's met by an unexpected visitor whose presence in Paris changes everything.
MCLA Presents!, a performance series of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, brings to North Adams and the MCLA campus some of the world's finest performers in music, dance, theatre and spoken word. It is a program of the Berkshire Cultural Resource Center.
