MCLA Veteran's Resource Center Opening
WHAT: MCLA will present a ribbon cutting for its Veteran's Resource Center. This Center will provide MCLA veterans with the essential components in assessment and screening, general academic support systems, professional and peer support, outreach, student organizations, wellness, and access to training and campus-based computer technology.
This event is free and open to the public.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 16, 12 p.m.
WHERE: Venable Hall, room 309
WHO: In addition to MCLA President Mary K. Grant, Secretary of Veterans' Services Coleman Nee and Secretary of Education Matthew Malone are expected to be in attendance, along with other elected officials.
Coleman Nee, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and Operation Desert Storm, has worked as Undersecretary of Veterans' Services since 2008. As Secretary, Nee leads a Department focused on strengthening operations and service delivery to veterans and their families; working with federal, state and municipal partners, veteran service officers and organizations to increase the effective and efficiency of providing benefits to veterans and families; expanding the Massachusetts Women's Veterans' Network to meet the needs of this growing segment of the veterans population; and address the issue of homelessness among veterans to provide all homeless persons who have served their country with an opportunity for permanent shelter and services that will support them in becoming self-sufficient and healthy.
As Secretary of Education, Matthew Malone directs the Executive Office of Education and works closely with the Commonwealth's education agencies - Department of Early Education and Care, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Department of Higher Education and the University of Massachusetts system - while serving as a voting member of the governing board of all four education agencies. He is the Governor's top advisor on education and helps shape the Commonwealth's continuous education reform agenda.
