Gallery 105 to Host Pop-Up Tent Outside of Extended Show

08/28/2013

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. - As part of DownStreet Art, an initiative of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' (MCLA) Berkshire Cultural Resource Center (BCRC), Gallery 105 will reopen the extended exhibit of "The Forest of And, And, And" with the added benefit of a pop-up tent outside, which will house work by Tom McGill.

The event, which is on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 6 p.m, is free and open to the public.

McGill explores different, creative media to articulate something of his experience of the world. He often uses iconic cultural, social and religious images, both in and out of their usual contexts. Common objects, cultural artifact, and portraits also are featured. By using a shared cultural vocabulary McGill hopes to allow the viewer to connect with the work meaningfully through the lens of the viewer's own life experience.

"Tom McGill has dipped a toe in quite a number of soul-chasing pursuits, and so it only seems fitting - with a whole foot and undoubtedly a whole heart submerged in his artistic endeavors -  that his expression of self involves a tangle of diverse subjects," said SIC Magazine. "By mixing iconography with the mundane, his work often engages the thinking place in your head."

Gallery 105 is part of DownStreet Art, a program of MCLA's Berkshire Cultural Resource Center. Gallery 105, at 105 Main St., is open Wednesday to Friday noon to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The "Forest of And, And, And" exhibition will be on view until Sept. 4.
