MCLA 'Green Living' Seminar to Focus on Meat Production and Processing

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. - The next "Green Living" seminar at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) will take place on Thursday, March 27, at 5:30 p.m. in Murdock Hall room 218, with a presentation titled: "Meat Production and Processing."

The public is invited to attend this free series, "Cultivating a Sustainable Food System."

This lecture will be given by Ali Berlow, author of "The Mobile Poultry Slaughterhouse: Building a Humane Chicken Processing Unit to Strengthen Your Local Food System."

As the former founding executive director of the Island Grown Initiative, a non-profit that supports the small family farms and farmers of Martha's Vineyard, Berlow is committed to raising the public's awareness and consciousness about the food that we feed to our families.

Berlow's essay series, "A Cook's Notebook," airs periodically on NPR-member stations.

She and her husband, Sam Berlow, launched Edible Vineyard in April 2009. A quarterly print magazine, Edible Vineyard is dedicated to the local community on Martha's Vineyard, and features stories and recipes from the Island.

The 2013 Green Living Seminar series is a presentation of MCLA's Berkshire Environmental Resource Center and the MCLA Environmental Studies Department. It will continue on Thursdays through April 24.
