Tricks of the Trade to Look at 'The Art Gallery of Tomorrow'

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' (MCLA) Berkshire Cultural Resource Center (BCRC) will present "The Art Gallery of Tomorrow" as part of this season's Tricks of the Trade series of seminars on Monday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. at IS183 Art School in Stockbridge, Mass.

For this event, part of this season's series, "Websites, Social Web, Digital Documenting and Archiving," local gallery owners Lauren Clark of Lauren Clark Fine Art, Susan Jennings of Ursa Major and Melanie Mowinski of the PRESS Gallery will discuss how art galleries are adjusting to fewer people visiting their spaces, and how they have come to incorporate the digital into their plans for the future.

This panel discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be moderated by Leslie Ferrin of Ferrin Contemporary.

Clark is the owner, director and picture framer of Lauren Clark Fine Art in Housatonic, Mass. She attended Dean College in Franklin, Mass., where she studied English, and Elizabeth Seton College in Yonkers, N.Y., where she studied art.

Since 2009, Jennings has collaborated with Slink Moss as "Black Lake" to produce over a dozen multi-media art installations with painting, sculpture, video art, music and spoken word performances.

Jennings also has shown her work in solo shows across the country and in Paris and Chatellerault, France. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and a Master's of Fine Arts degree from Hunter College in New York, N.Y., where she also was an Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts fellow and resident.

Mowinski is an associate professor of art at MCLA and founder and gallery chief of PRESS: Letterpress as a Public Art Project, a hybrid gallery/studio/teaching space centered around a Vandercook Letterpress Printing Press. When she's not teaching, or printing at PRESS, you can find her in the hiking, running and lounging in the woods, searching out textures and patterns in the bark and rocks, regardless of the weather.

The Tricks of the Trade series runs from September until May, with all sessions starting at 6 p.m.
