"My hands-on experience at MCLA prepared me for my career at ESPN Radio. My experience at WJJW, MCLA TV, and The Beacon was what made me attractive to my prospective employers. If you want a chance to host a radio or TV show, broadcast a game, or work on an award-winning weekly newspaper; MCLA has opportunities waiting for you."

MCLA's Berkshire Cultural Resource Center partners with several of the departments and majors at the college to provide hands-on experience for MCLA students.

  • MCLA Gallery 51 is staffed by mostly student workers, who have the opportunity to learn first-hand how a gallery operates.

  • Each year there is a student-curated exhibition at the gallery. Under the supervision of MCLA faculty, Arts Management students handle the full curaton process, from determining the concept, putting a call out to artists and selecting the work, marketing the exhibit, and installing the work.

  • Each year there is a students work exhibition at the gallery, where students in the Art major and others have the opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional gallery.

  • MCLA students are an integral part of the MCLA Presents! series, assisting in programming, marketing, production and operations. Students have the opportunity to meet with many of the performers through classroom workshops. And each performance includes student acts, allowing students the unique opportunity to perform in a line-up of international musicians, poets, and actors.

Fine and Performing Arts Program:

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts offers an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts in Fine and Performing Arts in which students explore music, theatre, art, and arts management through a series of foundation courses. Students then concentrate in a specific area (Music, Theatre, Art or Arts Management) through advanced classes, performance opportunities, and exhibits. Students may also pursue initial teacher licensure as an early childhood or elementary teacher by double-majoring with the Education degree.

Arts Management Program:

MCLA's Arts Management Major is a total immersion in the business of arts, and one of the few undergraduate programs of its kind in the nation. The Arts Management major combines study in art, music and theatre with coursework in business administration and public relations, to provide training in all aspects of managing nonprofit cultural organizations. Courses include fundraising, museum studies, and performing arts management, among others.

Art Program:

MCLA's Art Major allows students to hone their skills through access to all levels of art making – from introductory assignments to advanced, independent, student-designed projects. The outstanding faculty offer courses from both traditional, nontraditional and experimental methods in a wide array of media such as drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, film, broadcast communications, computer graphics and costume design.
