Assistant Professor, Fine and Performing Arts
Michaela Petrovich holds an MFA in Costume Design from the University of Washington and a BA in “Costume Design: History, Theory, Praxis” through the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies at the University of Redlands.
Petrovich joined the MCLA Theatre faculty in Fall 2019, following two years as Visiting Assistant Professor of Scenic and Costume Design at the University of Redlands. In her time at Redlands, Petrovich created a new design topics course, “Designing Fantasy”, focusing on visual world building which brought together students across disciplines to explore the fantasy genre through a theatrical design lens. Petrovich also co-taught an intensive one month studio course “Designing Science Fiction: The Franchise- Doctor Who,” alongside Dr. Piers Britton, with former BBC costume designer, June Hudson, as artist in residence. Prior to entering academia, she served as Staff Costume Design Associate at Seattle Repertory Theatre.
