FEDERAL STUDENT LOANS

Federal student loans include the Direct Subsidized Student Loan and Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan, which can be offered through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It also includes the Federal Parent PLUS Loan, a federal, credit-based loan a parent can apply for in their name. 

ALTERNATIVE STUDENT LOANS

Alternative student loans are private, credit-based loans not offered through the FAFSA.
