Student Instructions for Add/Drop Procedure

The add/drop period begins on Wednesday, September 4th and will run through Thursday, September 12th. Students wishing to make changes to their schedules need to meet with their academic advisor. Once classes begin, students must have approval from the instructor to be added into a course. Instructor approval is not required to drop a course. Students can use the paper add/drop form, or access online add/drop in Banner. Information about online add/drop is listed below.

  • Review your Fall 2019 schedule online in Banner (From the MCLA portal, select the word “Banner” in the blue header bar.)
  • Once you are in Banner, select “Registration” from the student menu.
  • Select “Concise Student Schedule” to view your current classes.
  • You can also access the open class lists in the Registration menu.
  • It is recommended that you also review your Degree Works degree evaluation to insure that your course changes meet the requirements of your program of study. Your degree audit will show courses needed for your program.
  • The add/drop form is available from the Office of Student Records in Eldrige Hall, and can also be downloaded from the Registrar’s web page. (From the portal page, select “Services”, the scroll down to “Registrar”.)
  • Meet with your academic advisor to review your proposed changes. Have the advisor sign your paper form, or obtain your PIN to do your transactions online.
  • Obtain approval from the instructor for any courses you are adding. It is easiest to connect with the instructor by going to the time and location of the course you would like to add.
  • In lieu of signatures, it is acceptable to get approval from your advisor or instructor by email. The email should be done in the MCLA Office 365 email system. Outside email is not accepted. Print out the email and bring it with your completed form.
  • Fill out the add/drop form completely and include your ID#, all of the course information, and your signature.
  • Bring your completed form to the Office of Student Records in Eldridge Hall.

Online Add/Drop Procedure

  • Any student wishing to use the on-line add/drop process must meet with their advisor to review their planned schedule revisions.
  • Advisors will provide students with an alternate PIN.
  • Once students receive their alternate pin, they can email faculty whose course they wish to ADD into.
  • Faculty will be able to log on to Self-Service Banner and provide electronic approval for a student to ADD into their course.
  • Students will receive a confirmation email once a faculty has granted on-line permission for them to add the course.
  • Students can then log on to Self-Service Banner and register for the course (same registration process as pre-registration).
  • Faculty signoff is no longer needed for a student to DROP a course – however, students must meet with their advisor and receive their alternate pin.
