Being a successful professor is my life‐long goal. I have been working diligently to reach this goal by earning rich teaching experiences and constantly improving my capabilities.
During the past several years, I have advised undergraduates' senior designs and graduates' thesis. These topics vary from academic research to practical systems. For example, I advised undergraduate students to design and implement a wireless monitoring system, which is composed of a wireless sensor network and a web‐based Human Machine Interface (HMI). The hardware included PCB board, XBee wireless module and various sensors, e.g., temperature sensor, humidity sensor and light sensor. A web‐based HMI was implemented in a Linux platform and it used an open‐source database MySQL and a Python based web‐framework Django.
The academic life gives me immense satisfaction and joy interacting with young and bright students. It provides a platform for sharing my knowledge with students as well as improving my own skills. I believe the most successful computer engineers build systems that combine technological acumen and innovative thinking. When students leave my class, I hope they have not only mastered the fundamental knowledge of computer science, but also are capable of applying their knowledge to solve real‐world problems.

Computer networks have changed the way we live, work, and learn. The demand for networks with high‐speed, secure and reliable communications continues to increase rapidly. My research has focused on optimizing the performance of computer networks and adopting future network architectures to achieve more efficient and secure communications. The representative topics include (1) Big data transmission in high‐speed networks; (2) Future Network Architecture, e.g., Software Defined Networking (SDN); (3) Future Smart Grid Architecture based on Internet of Things (IoT); and (4) Cyber Security in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and Smart Grid. Going forward, I plan to continue my effort to increase network performance and adopt new solutions/architectures to different scenarios, e.g., flow scheduling in IoT, security and effective communications in Smart Grid.
